The story of Tom

Tom’s Testimony:

“I come from a broken home. While I was close with my mom, my step-dad was a drunk. At the age of 15, I started using
drugs and by the age of 18 I was drinking every day. My mom couldn’t handle it because it reminded her of my dad, who
I never met.

Up until the age of 40 I drank and smoked pot. Then someone introduced me to meth and I started using it every day. I lost my connection to my mom, lost jobs, and didn’t have a place to live. I was angry and hated everybody. I was a loner. I hated myself and wanted to kill myself. One day I did try to kill myself by overdosing. That’s when I realized that I needed help.

I went to the Salina Rescue Mission 21 months ago and have been clean and sober since, by the grace of God. Before coming to the Mission I did not have a relationship with God at all.

Today I have a relationship with Christ who gives me hope. The New Life Program at the Salina Rescue Mission has taught me to put Christ first in my life. They taught me that God has never given up on me and I can have a more fulfilling life in Him.

Since coming to the Mission, I have also been able to restore my relationship with my mom. She’s glad I came here and likes the changes she has seen in me.”

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all thing have become new.”
~ 2 Corinthians 5:17

Because of your gifts we can be here for men like Tom and help them to find a new life in Christ.

Our New Life Program helps men find the forgiveness God offers all of us and re-establish us in our new identity as sons of God, through faith in Jesus.

It’s a hard road because men like Tom have learned how to live and think by the false patterns of this world. We have to become born-again and learn what it means to live according to God’s truth and His design for our lives.

On top of all of this, we are still living in a fallen world. The world is far from perfect and we have to learn how to live in it. To live with strife, injustice, and failure without turning to alcohol and drugs as a coping mechanism. That is why our New Life Program takes most men between one year to eighteen months to complete.

This program is offered to those who desire it, completely free because of your support. You are investing in the Kingdom of God and in the lives of these men.

On behalf of everyone here at the Salina Rescue Mission, Thank You for caring and for helping.
