The story of Tim

Tim came to the Salina Rescue Mission in September of 2016, a broken man.

“I had been married for 21 years and had 4 beautiful daughters who were grown and out of the house. As an empty nester, I started drinking more alcohol and found myself coming to be dependent upon it,” Tim explained.

One day, my wife and I were in a serious car wreck. Upon getting out of the hospital, my wife moved to Virginia to live with our oldest daughter. Without my wife being there, my drinking got even worse. Though I did not know why at the time, I decided to go to the Rescue Mission.

God had been in
my life, but I had never
taken Him seriously

Their staff shared with me about the recovery programs they offered to help me get my life back together. Tom Davis, the New Life Program Director, told me that this program was all about learning that God has a plan for your life. I needed to understand God’s plan for living, so that I could find a new life in Christ.

After 17 months, I am graduating the New Life Program. My life has turned around 180 degrees because of the Mission and their caring supporters. I now have a job, my church has become a second home to me, and my family is thrilled to see the changes in me since I have devoted my life to the Lord.

I know God has given me a new life and I want to make the most of it by giving back to the community and helping others. I am looking forward to being a peer mentor at CKF, as well as continuing to be support for other men at the Mission.

My favorite Bible verse is
Proverbs 3:5 – Trust in the
Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own

Two years ago, I never would have imagined the new life I have today. Thanks be to God, through whom all things are possible.”
